The WSWS Responds
Dear Johnnie,
The Socialist Equality Party and the International Committee of the Fourth International, which publishes the World Socialist Web Site, is the organizational continuation of revolutionary socialism, or Marxism. We are indeed fully aware of the determination of the ruling class to maintain power. Some of the issues you raise in your letter were addressed in a response to very different letters from yours, published at: http://www.wsws.org/articles/2003/dec2003/exch-d271.shtml and http://www.wsws.org/articles/2000/apr2000/rad-a12.shtml. The WSWS is opposed to the perspective of individual violence, and we see the essential task of socialists today as the education of the population and the development of a mass, conscious, independent, democratic and socialist movement of the working class. This is the purpose of the WSWS. However, we do recognize the inevitability of revolutionary upheavals as the ruling class seeks to crush any such movement with counterrevolutionary violence.
